For years I have stressed the importance of Bible memory
and Bible meditation. I think that the most important discipline a child
of God can be involved in is that of daily hiding God's Word in his heart.
I believe that in order for a Christian to reach his full potential in all
areas of his life, he must first develop the consistent habit of
meditating on the Word of God.
Joshua 1:8 This book of
the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is
written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success.
Psalm 1:1 3 Blessed is
the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in
the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his
delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that
bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither,
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Show me a child of God who meditates day and night on the
Word of God and I will show you an individual who is successfully reaching
his full potential for the Lord.
I am extremely pleased with how the youth pastors have
developed the Bible quizzing program in our church. I have been involved
with youth work for years and I believe I can say without hesitation that
the greater percentage of young people who are involved in this program
will turn out right for God.
I am old enough now to look back on close to 25 years in the ministry and
observe the fruits. I know young people who are now serving the Lord
around the world in full time ministries, and no less than 90% of them
were involved in the discipline of Scripture memory while they were
teenagers.
